A small single-estate vineyard producing wild fermented and certified organic wine in Bannockburn, Carrick Winery offers a multi-layered cellar door and restaurant experience, designed to cater to every mood and occasion.
Founded in 1994, Carrick Winery released its first vintage in 2000 and has since evolved with a focus on sustainability. The winery and restaurant opened in 2002, inviting guests to indulge in delicious food and wine while soaking in the breathtaking views of the region. A pivotal moment came in 2008 when Carrick transitioned to organic farming, earning certifications from Biogrow and Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand. This ongoing collaboration between the land and its people continues to thrive.
For those all about the wine, a range of immersive experiences are available. Tours of the vineyard, winery and barrel cellar provide a deep dive into the innovative winemaking process, followed by guided tastings at the cellar door. Of course, there’s always the opportunity to embark on a self-guided wine flight in the beautiful restaurant space or lush garden setting.
What sets Carrick Winery apart is its accessibility and adaptability, making it a popular stop for both casual cyclists on the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail and those arriving by helicopter for special occasions. Out in the garden, the Pedal & Pour trailer serves a laid-back menu of gourmet pizzas, fries, and ice cream, perfectly paired with a glass of wine. The window also attracts early risers with excellent coffee and famous freshly made cheese scones. In summer, the Carrick Garden buzzes with visitors gathering around picnic tables, lounging on a grassy knoll, or escaping to the glasshouse or private cabanas for more intimate moments.
Inside the main restaurant, it’s a different story. High ceilings, striking dried floral arrangements and polished dining chairs draped in soft sheepskin throws set the scene for an elevated fine dining experience. Head chef Gwen Harvie crafts a seasonal menu featuring small and large sharing plates that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. From olive oil harvested from the winery’s grove and eggs laid by resident chickens to organic ingredients fresh from the onsite garden, every dish embodies the essence of Carrick.
If you never want to leave (or at least not for another 24 hours), there are two holiday houses providing boutique accommodation – where great wine is always within walking distance.
