In a renovated warehouse space in Christchurch's Sydenham, Kin Hair offers an inclusive high-end salon treatment unlike any other in town. The experience is in the name, with a small but highly skilled team of passionate stylists welcoming you in as part of their extended family.

Owner Dannii Dinh brings over two decades of industry experience to the business, including seven years of running her own salons. She was named Christchurch’s best hairdresser in the 2019 and 2020 Avenues A-List, and her previous salon, Dinh Hair Salon, was named a design finalist in the 2017 and 2018 Industry Awards. The nine years Dannii spent in Melbourne not only accelerated her talent as a stylist, but inspired the edgy and cool design aesthetic of her space today.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the salon is its vibrant yet calming interior. Kin brings together fun retro-inspired design choices and fresh contemporary touches, with high-angled ceilings and skylights adding to the drama. The colour palette of their branding spills over into the entire fitout. Nostalgic licks of avocado green complement modern baby pink, turquoise, orange and yellow, with plenty of wooden tones, greenery and soft furnishings to give it a home-away-from-home atmosphere. The salon shares the Elgin Street space with local bike shop Cycling Trading Co, which adds a lovely community buzz.

You’ll be pleased to know, all precious locks are given the same level of treatment as the unique interior. The team of stylists are best known for delivering first-class colour treatments, stylish cuts and expert tailored advice. As well as dedicating their attention to each client’s personal hair needs, Kin is also committed to reducing their environmental footprint. The boutique, cruelty-free products of Kevin Murphy line the shelves, and Kin has partnered with Sustainable Salons, an organisation which recycles 95% of resources used at its partner salons.

Once you’ve stepped foot into Kin, you’ll never have to endure those awkward “I love it” lies to your hairdresser again. Whether you’re getting your regular trim or something more transformative, you’ll leave feeling inspired from not only your fresh cut but the genuine connection between you and your stylist.
