‘Power to perform’ is the mantra that motivates everything at 13th Stag cafe. Located in the heart of Hawke’s Bay Sports Park, great coffee and healthy, delicious food is the name of the game here. It’s a peaceful spot for the community to come together whether they’re off to hit the gym, celebrating post-match or nipping in to grab a takeaway coffee.

Owners Blair and his wife Sarah are well known around Hawke’s Bay, with Blair being a familiar face to many cricket fans, playing for the Central Stags and the Black Caps. Sarah and Blair are advocates of fitness and healthy lifestyles, so it was important to them to incorporate this into the cafe and they relished the opportunity to open 13th Stag at the sports park. The cafe’s name honours Blair's playing number, 13, and the Central Stags cricket team of which he has been an integral member since 2015. In addition to being a professional cricket player, Blair has spent many off-seasons as a barista, so he knows a thing or two about brewing great coffee.

The interior of the cafe is light and bright with plenty of plant life and greenery dotted around the space. On a sunny Hawke's Bay day, take advantage of the outdoor seating and large umbrellas and get in a dose of fresh air and vitamin D. Allpress beans are in the coffee hopper and the 13th Stag baristas are experts in their craft, so you know you can count on an excellent cup of joe. You can even opt for one of their Fitspo Hot Dranks: the Bang Bang Stag is black coffee with butter, MCT oil, collagen and coconut milk—it’s sure to have you firing on all cylinders!

When it comes to the food, make sure you visit hungry because you’ll be tempted to order more than one dish, the menu is that good! Breakfast dishes are classics with a 13th Stag twist—we’re talking Tiramisu French Toast, Pink Eggs Benny and Venison Mince Toast to name just a few. Lunch options are served as your choice of either a powerbowl (on rice) or as a flatbread, always delivering bang for your buck on the flavour front. They have the littlies covered with a cracking kids' menu and there’s a cabinet laden with more choices, perfect if time isn’t on your side and you need something to go.

13th Stag not only brings fitness and food together, but it’s also a place where you can catch up with mates, enjoy delicious brews and eats, and most importantly, feel like you’re part of a community. You’re always welcome at 13th Stag and you’ll be finding any excuse you can to visit.
