The Hide Kāpiti

A stay at The Hide Kāpiti is an invitation to slow down, switch off, and reconnect with the things that matter - with just the right dash of luxury thrown in. This beautifully considered, 60-square-metre escape pairs architecture and nature in a way that feels sophisticated but never formal, with sweeping views across native bush towards the Kāpiti Coast and the ocean beyond.
From the outset, The Hide Kāpiti was designed to work with its surroundings rather than compete with them. Natural materials, handcrafted finishes, and thoughtfully curated interiors give the space a warm, calming feel, while big windows make the most of the outlook. A largely monochrome palette lends the space a touch of understated class. There’s an outdoor bath - coupled with a shower - for long soaks beneath the stars, and both indoor and outdoor fireplaces ensure the evenings are nice and toasty. The large wraparound deck completes the picture, perfectly positioned for morning coffees and slow afternoons while the surrounding landscape provides plenty to look at.
But if you can tear yourself away, the best of the Kāpiti Coast is close by. Beaches, cafes, restaurants, and walking tracks are all within easy reach, making it easy to mix a day of exploring with plenty of time spent doing very little. The Hide Kāpiti can also arrange celebration packages, local experiences, and thoughtful extras for those marking a special occasion or simply wanting to make their stay feel a little more memorable.
The inspiration for The Hide Kāpiti’s name comes from co-owner Mark’s military background, referring to a vantage point that provides protection and concealment for the occupant. While this particular hide on the Kāpiti Coast is in a much more relaxed setting, it speaks to the same ethos: offering a place that offers guests complete privacy and refuge.
