Palm Boutique is no ordinary clothing store, but a true destination for fashion lovers. The store has been standing in the same location on Nelson’s Bridge Street since 2006 and continues to boast a wide range of home-grown New Zealand labels along with carefully selected international brands.

Owned and operated by Renee Bignell since 2018, each garment hanging on the scaffolding rack is carefully selected by her, and she often acquires only one or two of each item to make sure customers are unlikely to come across the same piece of clothing on the street.

Expect to browse garments from well-known New Zealand designers and labels such as NOM*d, Zambesi, Juliette Hogan, Kate Sylvester, Twenty Seven Names, Karen Walker and Kowtow and exclusive international brands including BAUM Und Pferdgarten and Day Birger. Palm Boutique also carries local slow fashion labels Masami, JPALM and Lela Jacobs.

While Palm Boutique sits neatly in the high-end scale of the fashion world, there are pieces for varying budgets to be found in-store, too. Owner Renee is a true supporter of other local businesses and creatives, so stumbling upon something Nelson-made on the racks is highly probable; in return, the store has a strong local following. It’s not unheard of for people to travel into town from further afield specifically to purchase their next favourite garment at Palm Boutique. If a visit to Nelson is not on the cards anytime soon, find most of the stock at the boutique’s online store – though nothing really beats the excitement and excellent service of an in-store shopping experience.
