First established in 1885 and rebuilt in 1947 after a fire, the former Argyle Hotel has long been woven into the rhythm of the Hunterville. And after sitting empty for two years, it’s been thoughtfully reshaped into something broader than a classic country pub: a modern community hub designed to welcome both loyal regulars and the steady stream of SH1 travellers passing through. The interior strikes a careful balance between refinement and familiarity, with the native timber floors given a new lease of life, the art deco character preserved, and the overall atmosphere feeling warm rather than flashy. It’s the kind of place where muddy boots belong but where you’d equally stop for a long lunch and a decent glass of wine. Outside, the revamped garden bar features a generous covered deck creating another relaxed spot to settle in over food and drinks.

The menu moves with the seasons, spanning brunch, lighter bites, and hearty mains, alongside weekly specials and a full bar offering. But Argyle isn’t simply somewhere to eat and drink. The former hotel’s rooms have been transformed into retail spaces, now home to Hunterville Village Gifts, clothing boutique Salt & Honey, and Wool & Comb hair salon, combining to make the space a genuinely multi-purpose stop.

The revamped Argyle was never about just reopening a pub for nostalgia’s sake. There was a bigger vision behind it all: creating jobs, supporting local businesses, giving people a reason to stop and explore, and ultimately, putting Hunterville firmly on the map.
