There’s no other way to say this; Checks Downtown is just damn cool. New to the local streetwear label of the moment? We’ll catch you up. Founded in 2017 by designer Jordan Gibson, this unisex clothing brand has grown from strength to strength. Unafraid of bold colours and throwback influences, a Checks garment effortlessly blends practicality and playfulness, underpinned with a focus on quality.

Where better to get up close and personal with this brand than a trip to their Pitt Street flagship store. Just around the corner from the humm of Karangahape Road, you can’t miss it—the facade is bright orange, after all. Upon entry, you’ll be greeted with an intentionally curated selection of regular favourites and new-season collabs. From graphic tees to city-style shoes and cosy layering pieces, good luck leaving with just one item.

As far as fan favourites go, you’ll certainly need to try a Checks hoodie or logo tee—don’t forget to size up for that effortless look. The brand also knows how to nail a seasonal head accessory. From summer caps and bucket hats to snug winter beanies, it’s an easy way to add a pop of personality to your ‘fit. If you’re shopping for a lucky someone, Checks has plenty of options. You’ll often find oversized graphic totes, jewellery and a few lifestyle accessories dotted around the store. Plus, you’ll be supporting homegrown Kiwi talent—double win.

The experience doesn’t stop there. Checks also have a die-hard customer community for a good reason, thanks to warehouse sales, pop-up events and giveaways. Keep up with everything going down at Checks on their socials here
