Bellbird Bakery Holmwood represents an exciting new chapter for the Christchurch artisan bakery that is well known and beloved around the ‘03. It’s a welcoming space in the heart of Merivale that brings together delicious bread and baked goods, great coffee, and that signature Bellbird care.

Founder and baker Jeremy MacCormack first began selling at local farmers' markets in 2010, and since then, Bellbird has been crafting high-quality sourdough bread, croissants, and traditional French pastries. They use sustainable, locally sourced ingredients and traditional slow fermentation – and you can taste it in every bite.

The Holmwood store is Bellbird’s third location, following their flagship bakery at The Tannery and their permanent stall at Riverside Market. Nestled in a block of neighbourhood shops, Bellbird Holmwood is warm, inviting and has rooted itself as the local neighbourhood bakery. It’s the place to grab your morning coffee (Prima Roastery is the bean of choice) and croissant, pick up your favourite loaf, or enjoy a relaxed catch-up with a friend over sandwiches.

As a working bakery, the store provides customers with a glimpse into the craft and care that goes into the whole range. From the counter you can watch the bakers in the background, prepping pastries and filling sandwiches. Many of the staff working both behind the scenes and front of house are long-serving members of the team, a testament to how Bellbird has built a community that is far more than just a workplace.

If you’re in the vicinity of Bellbird Bakery Holmwood, it’s well worth stopping by. Whether you’re grabbing something sweet for later (almond croissant lovers, we see you!) or selecting a freshly-made sandwich for lunch, everything is made with the best ingredients available, delivering on flavour and quality.

Bellbird has been a cornerstone of Christchurch’s artisan baking scene for over 15 years, and the Merivale community loves having them as neighbours. Who wouldn’t?
