If you’re feeling grumpy or a little blue, a visit to Mind Your Temper is sure to lighten your mood. Owner and Chief Chocolatier Nel believes chocolate should be fun and life should be too. He’s proud to be a pioneer, creating happy, colourful chocolates that bring joy to those who eat them.

In a charming little glass-fronted studio kitchen in Burnside, you’ll find Nel working on his magical chocolate creations. Simple white walls, thriving indoor plants and a vibrant collection of chocolate-making books set the scene for artfully crafted chocolates to take centre stage. On display, you’ll find petite, jewel-coloured pieces of euphoria known as bonbons, alongside dragées; jars of scrumptious, miniature, epicurean delights. Gourmet bars of creamy vegan chocolate hold their own in a display of unique designs and colourful hues. In fact, everything in this adorable spot is vegan.

As Mind Your Temper grew from a tiny market stall, to a food truck, to its current studio location, one thing became abundantly clear - their vegan chocolates are incredibly popular! The Raspberry Cheesecake Bonbon even won first place at the first annual 2022 Vegan Chocolate Awards. So exquisite are their offerings that Mind Your Temper also won three Gold medals at the biennial New Zealand Chocolate Awards in 2022. Their Raspberry Cheesecake Bonbon, Vanilla Salted Caramel Dragée and Hazelnut Chocolate Bar all took home the Gold!

Quality ingredients are vital in chocolate making, and Mind Your Temper seeks to showcase local ingredients wherever possible. An exceptional local variety of Canterbury hazelnuts is a key ingredient in many of the divine goods Nel creates. Be sure to try the Gianduja Hazelnut Bar - a veritable feast for the eyes and tastebuds alike.

Incredibly passionate about his craft, Nel loves a good chat with his customers. He encourages them to come in with an open mind, try new offerings and explore new flavours. If you’re lucky, he may even give you a tour of the Mind Your Temper kitchen!
