Muy Muy breathes a breath of warm Central American air to the edge of Christchurch's CBD. Situated in the iconic Welles St site where it all began for the South of the City district back in late 2010s, this Oaxaca inspired tapas and margarita bar is right at home in the large converted warehouse space.

Cleverly divided into various spaces, the restaurant offers both intimate booths perfect for small get-to-gethers and long communal tables that can seat a large crew no problemo! Subtle warm tones and pared back interiors create a fresh, uncluttered feel within the restaurant. This is a restaurant where space has been created for the food and drinks to truly take centre stage.

The menu celebrates flavours of Mexico and Central America with subtle twists that make each dish a Muy Muy special. Sample a few different things from the snack menu accompanied with a crisp craft beer, or go for the tacos, which are the true favourites here –  the sharing taco platter feeds a few hungry mouths in one go. Finish off with a dessert cocktail or a frozen margarita, and you’ll find yourself a happy human indeed.

If you find yourself here on a nice summer’s evening, the large covered courtyard filled with greenery is the place to be. Here the huge barn doors open all the way, letting the sunshine and street view in, making people watching part of the fun of dining on one of the coolest streets in the city.

Part of the Muy Muy experience is daily live music, which can take many forms, from traditional Mexican guitar music to modern entertainment. Sundays see the restaurant turn into a salsa club, and monthly Latin parties transport you straight across the Pacific and onto Central American soil.

A perfect location for functions, Muy Muy can accommodate large groups and private bookings with prior agreement. Keep an eye on its website and socials for upcoming events too!
