Riccarton Noodle House has been a local favourite for over twenty years. It’s a lively hub for Christchurch’s Cambodian community and for anyone who appreciates great food. Many of Riccarton Noodle House’s regulars grew up dining here and now bring their own bubs along for lunch and dinner.
Owner Pauchanda makes it her mission to keep this well loved spot doing what it does best in terms of providing every visitor with an experience that is as delicious as it is welcoming.
To witness the care each dish is prepared, simply peer into the open kitchen and you will find head chef Pauchanda at work amidst steaming pots, simmering broths and orderly containers of freshly chopped vegetables awaiting her attention.
Running her own restaurant has always been Pauchanda’s dream, and she’s managed to keep the best aspects of Riccarton Noodle House at its heart while also adding her own flair. She has incorporated dishes from her childhood in the Cambodian countryside and draws inspiration from dishes that her great grandmother taught her to cook. She remembers getting the keys to the restaurant like it was yesterday, adores her customers and loves to see families dine in together.
Riccarton Noodle House is the kind of place that nails takeaways but is also perfect for an in-house meal or even big get togethers. With ample space, high chairs for the tots and an efficient kitchen team you can bring just about anyone along for a guaranteed good time. One regular Sunday group includes about 23 guests who never fail to keep their weekly ritual. They come back for the consistently tasty dishes which feature flavours from Cambodia and beyond.
Each meal here is made to order and the star is, you guessed it, noodles. Riccarton Noodle House’s speciality item, chicken noodle soup is hot, brothy, noodle laden and full of tender chicken. Its nourishing flavours are the result of a homemade, low and slow broth making process. Another top menu item, the wonton noodle soup, features handmade wontons, which Pauchanda and her team carefully assemble in house. Fried rice, fried noodles and curries also feature, and almost every dish can be customised to suit the level of spice you prefer.
Even the satay sauce is made in house here. It has the right balance of sticky sweetness and tanginess and makes for a mean chicken satay or burger which can both be found on the menu board. If you’re after a refreshing beverage check out the bubble tea menu which is full of fun flavour combinations, tapioca pearls and a secret housemate jelly recipe.
For a flavoursome lunch on the run, a family get together and a few hot brothy bowls that’ll leave you wanting more head to Riccarton Noodle House.
