When Blue Moon Bakehouse opened their doors on Riccarton Road in 2024, they garnered a glowing reputation throughout Christchurch and beyond at lightning speed. This playful and modern Asian bakery are experts in all things pastry, dough and bread, blending bold flavours with finer details.

It’s no surprise to learn that the owners behind Blue Moon Bakehouse are Mia and Andy, the powerhouse duo that operate hospitality group Double Dribble, and are responsible for many of your favourite Ōtautahi haunts. Opening this bakery has been a long-held dream of Andy’s; to have a spot where the smell of fresh buns fills the air every morning and good coffee flows all day. The space itself is warm and welcoming with raw timber details, soft material, pops of pink walls on the walls and cosy booth seating. This aesthetic, combined with the big bakehouse window and dog-friendly attitude, creates a buzzing community atmosphere.

On any given day, the cabinet at Blue Moon is laden with treats; we’re talking Dubai pistachio chocolate croissants, Biscoff-filled donuts, cinnamon rolls and beautiful birthday cakes. If you are a savoury lover at heart, don’t worry, the bakers at Blue Moon have you covered too, with fresh loaves of bread, bagels and decadent focaccia sandwiches. The team in the kitchen are busy baking throughout the day, meaning no matter what time you visit, there’s a good chance some freshly-baked items will have just landed in the pastry case.

Blue Moon not only excels with their baked goods but with their specialty drinks selection too, there aren’t too many places in the ‘03 you’ll find an iced ube latte or a black sesame espresso latte. Their matcha drinks have been a customer favourite since day one, so much so that Mia and Andy went to Japan to visit tea farmers in June 2025 to source and import the best matcha they could find, and the result is their Carnival Matcha range.

Sharing the space with Blue Moon is Mia and Andy’s Asian-inspired grocer, Little Foragers, where convenience meets culture, helping people create stylish, quick, and delicious Asian meals at home. So after you’ve had your coffee and treat at the Bakehouse, wander the aisles of Little Foragers and pick up some pantry staples or trending Asian snacks.

Whether you’re popping into Blue Moon Bakehouse to try the latest pastry sensation you’ve seen on social media, getting your matcha fix or picking up desserts for an occasion, you will be wowed every single visit.
