The Tannery Shop 50/3 Garlands Road, Woolston, Christchurch

Sitting pretty within the Tannery, Marmaduke Shoppe is one of those rare interior stores that is so beautifully curated that it takes a while to realise each piece within the store is actually for sale. Stepping into the store feels a bit like entering the home of a friend with an enviable, timeless styling touch. This is where old world charm meets modern simplicity; there’s a sense of French countryside meets modern seaside living.

There is nothing that screams current fads here, and no bright, popping colours, but plenty of unassuming, simple, exceptional pieces that are designed to stand the test of time. A mix of carefully chosen antique pieces and quality modern furniture blends seamlessly within the muted style of Marmaduke Shoppe. Textures and natural materials are the true stars of the show within the store, and unique products, such as cactus silk or grain sack cushions, are just some of the pieces you will not encounter elsewhere.

Talking about the stars of the show, it would be a crime not to mention the huge selection of antique rugs and handmade kilims the store beholds. No two are the same, some of the Turkish antique rugs are over fifty years old, and each has been hand picked directly from local importers.

Even if you’re not in the market for bigger pieces for your home, Marmaduke Shoppe is not to be bypassed. There are plenty of smaller items, from tableware to quality candles, lighting and decorative objects and interior design books to marvel at or carry home with you.

Marmaduke Shoppe also has an extensive online store, where you can browse most of the collection at your own leisure.
