When you say the word gym, you don’t often think of a zen-like space that you would quite happily spend many hours at, multiple times a week. However, this is exactly how to describe The Well - Whole Body Studios, a boutique workout experience in The Tannery on the eastern side of Christchurch.

Owner and founder, Jen Rice, opened The Well in 2021, and as a certified personal trainer for over 20 years, she certainly knows a thing or two about the world of exercise. Combine this with her passion for movement science and evidence-based training, and you get a gym environment that encourages consistent and sustainable workouts. From the minute you walk in the door at The Well, you can feel there’s a difference; first in the aesthetics, with the space being bright and airy thanks to high ceilings and natural light. There’s also plenty of greenery and plant life, and a scent more akin to a day spa than your average sweaty gym.

The Well prides itself on its top-of-the-range Technogym equipment, and perhaps most importantly, the team of experienced body health practitioners who are on hand to help their clients achieve the best results possible. This includes personal trainers, a physiotherapist, a nutritionist, an osteopath, a yoga therapist and massage therapists.

In November 2024, Jen expanded The Well’s offering with the addition of the Biocircuit, an exciting AI-powered training circuit - the first to do so in Aotearoa. With the help of one of The Well’s trainers tailoring a workout plan just right for you, the Biocircuit then aids you in completing this circuit by setting up each machine to the correct weights or variations as per your profile. Multiple people can participate at any one time, so it’s like being in a class environment completely tailored to your needs.

The Well - Whole Body Studios is always striving to provide their clients with the best equipment, the best expertise and the best environment to enjoy their workout. It’s safe to say they are achieving their goals.
