The Observatory Hotel

Craftmanship, elegance, art and history collide with spectacular outcomes at The Observatory Hotel in the heart of Christchurch’s Art Centre. The Observatory Hotel is truly majestic with its vibrant colours, luxurious finishes and stylish curation. A stay here is as unique as they come in Aotearoa.
Located in the former Observatory Tower, The Observatory Hotel boasts 33 bespoke rooms each designed with much panache by interior designer, Jessica Close. Imagine William Morris fabrics, bright vivid colours, locally crafted furniture and exquisite art throughout, a clever reimagining of the arts and crafts movement with a twist of modernity. And at the epicentre is art, unsurprising given its location, yet evident in the stunning collection of artworks provided by The Central Art Gallery. Fortunately for guests, the pieces on display are available to purchase (a QR code next to each artwork will provide more information on how to buy). The Drawing Room is a masterclass in design and the perfect place to unwind after a busy day exploring the city and all its delights.
The Arts Centre's striking Gothic Revival architecture is never far from sight, just look for the exposed stonework, beams and windows all around. The unique perimeters of the building have allowed a spectrum of different dimensions and clever layouts, there’s certainly no cookie cutter here. You can expect to find all the usual amenities including complimentary high- speed wifi, espresso machine, and Smart TV. A special mention of The Malachite Room is a must. An opus of The Observatory Hotel, the room is a wonderfully appointed in the attic of the Botany building. With its plush lounge area, impressive roll top bath with overhead skylight and stunning outlook, you’re sure to have an unforgettable stay here.
Whether you’re visiting from afar or a local eyeing up a staycation, The Observatory Hotel is one-of-a-kind, playful and most deserving of a visit.
