Established in 2016, Hive is intended as a cafe for everyone. Their vision is simple: to be genuine, while providing a place for people to get good coffee and nourish themselves. Housed in an Eastbourne building that’s been a cafe since near the start of time, Hive prides itself on being friendly, fresh and big.

There is certainly enough space for everyone, whether you want to take a seat inside, upstairs, or in the spacious and relaxing courtyard. With WiFi, plenty of power outlets and space for bigger groups, Hive is an inviting place to while away the day, with good food and coffee in hand.

Each coffee is brewed with locally roasted Karamu beans, and cold drinks include options such as locally made seasonal kombucha. There is a tantalising cabinet, with goodies such as ham off the bone baguettes and almond croissants, and the menu also offers a variety of fresh and flavoursome options. Since its inception, the Spanish Breakfast has not left the menu — for good reason!

Like any well-functioning hive, great work ethic has been key to their success. Especially with a mantra like ‘always fresh, everyday,’ which is (somewhat remarkably) the case at Hive. Baking from scratch, every day, may ensure the highest quality products, but it can be a tricky and, at times, stressful task toeing the line between creating enough to meet demand, yet also wanting to sell out and minimise their waste.

With a desire to create a place people love to work at and understanding that happy staff usually equals happy customers, it’s worth popping down yourself to check out the buzz.
