Cranfields

Cranfields has been making a case for buying better things since 1991. What began as a family business in Wellington has grown into a celebration of beautiful objects, clothing, and gifts, with the Raumati Beach outpost bringing that Cranfields heritage to the Kāpiti Coast.

The shop has the feel of a small lifestyle emporium rather than a conventional gift store, with each room offering something new to discover. A distinctive Cranfields scent envelopes you the moment you step in, with the natural combination of leather, timber, oils, and waxes making its presence promptly known.The fitout is warm, layered, and tactile, inviting customers to slowly explore as natural materials take centre stage - think solid timber, leather, merino, organic cotton, and pewter. 

There’s certainly plenty to browse. Homeware, furniture, fashion, and one-of-a-kind gifts all sit alongside an impressive selection of tabletop and kitchenware. The collection is broad but never feels random - Cranfields has a clear preference for things made well, designed to be used and enjoyed for years rather than replaced next season.

Among the signature finds are the Omersa leather animals, hailing from England, and handcrafted Italian pewter. These sit alongside beautifully made leather bags, natural-fibre clothing, distinctive jewellery, and a popular range of greeting cards. Many pieces are sourced directly from makers, including exclusive lines that can’t be found elsewhere in New Zealand.

That sense of provenance is a big part of the appeal. Cranfields is still a family business, and the name on the door is quite literally the family name behind the products. There’s pride in that, and it shows. These are things selected to have a life beyond the moment of purchase, with plenty of customers returning years, sometimes decades, later to say they’re still enjoying that statement piece they discovered at Cranfields.
