Located in a chic, airy storefront a few doors down from Rimu Wine Bar & Bottle Shop at Mapua Wharf, Rabbit Island Coffee Co. is the coffee lover’s ideal pit-stop after perusing the wharf’s many boutiques and galleries.

Although the shelves in the boutique coffee roastery have a thoughtfully curated range of local products —from chocolate and olive oil to spices, specialty teas and slick brewing equipment—the coffee is the star of the show. From blends to single-origin offerings, all are roasted with suitability for multiple brewing methods, from pour over to plunger. The Black Rabbit Blend mainstay is rich and smooth, while those looking for something a bit lighter and fruitier can try the single-origin Ethiopia Yirgacheffe. There’s also a rotating small-batch Seasonal Blend if you want to try something even more unique.

If you don’t know what to try, chat with the knowledgeable staff for recommendations, and then order a package of beans (ground or whole) to brew later from the comfort of your own home. You can also set up fortnightly or monthly bean subscriptions (from 250 grams up to 1 kilo) to ensure you remain stocked for the foreseeable future.
