There aren’t many galleries where you get to sit amongst art while sipping a great cup of coffee, but at Red Gallery & Café in Nelson, you get to do just that. Housed in a heritage building that once was a printing press (the old floorboards still bare dents from the heavy machines), there is much to discover and marvel at here.

Filled with an eclectic mix of design ware, the tables and cabinets heave with beautiful objects, books, local ceramics and jewellery. There is something for kids, something for adults, and something for nana – literally something for everyone at Red Gallery & Café - and it is very difficult to leave without a purchase in hand. That catch up with a friend over a cup of coffee may also accidentally turn into an art purchase - crazier things have happened!

Red Gallery & Café owners Suzi and Ant Stevens have succeeded in creating an approachable space and atmosphere. The people behind the counter at both the gallery and design store and café are friendly and knowledgeable. Coffee is brewed with Peoples Coffee beans and the food includes a selection of Best Ugly Bagels, winter soups and savouries, and petite sweet treats throughout the year.

Whether you’re in Nelson for a quick visit or around for longer, Red Gallery & Café is a must-visit.
