New Plymouth’s White Hart precinct is blessed with a handful of excellent hospitality outlets, and The Public Catering Company is certainly one of them.  But don’t let the name fool you.  There’s much more to them than private catering, as The Public Catering Company are best known for their artisan bread and baked goods.

Walk down the short staircase, and it's hard not to feel like you’re entering their secret inner sanctum; the team beaver away in the visible working kitchen, tossing dough, rolling donuts and assembling sandwiches. A true glimpse into the hard work and preparation it takes to get their delicious kai out to customers, whether for a wholesale bread order or for right here in their stylish retail space.

Despite its petite footprint, The Public Catering Company is cleverly designed to showcase their vast range of yummy treats and baking. A large glass counter that runs across one side of the room, is loaded with pastries, filled baguettes, pies and cakes, all ripe for choosing. There’s also a selection of freshly baked loaves and bagels to take home, as well as pickles, preserves and condiments (we did say they were prolific!). A large communal table sits proudly in the centre and is the ideal perch for scoffing your chosen snack and sipping down on a coffee.

If you feel like upgrading your next office morning tea, you can order The Public Catering Company donuts by the box, which are bound to impress even the unfriendliest of foes. In fact, whatever you choose, it is sure to be pretty darn delicious.
