Three Sisters Brewery is a local brewery doing marvellous things with, you’ve guessed it, beer. Owners, husband-and-wife team Joe and Sarah, have commandeered the old TSB bank on New Plymouth’s Devon Street West to create a fully functioned brewery and taproom. It seems fitting that the old TSB has inadvertently handed the baton over to the new TSB. Who’s to go against some serious synchronicity like that?
What started out as a few experimental brews made in the garage below Joe and Sarah’s place, has catapulted into an award-wining craft beer production company that’s based out of this handsome site in New Plymouth. Step inside their lofty space and find a range of top drops to sample. Staples include Oakura Blonde and Rain in the Face APA alongside a selection of short-run seasonal and experimental brews on hand pull. Keep a keen eye out for their Belgian Wit, Lila. Named after Juno Gin's copper still, the beer boasts botanical infused water with chamomile, coriander seeds, hand-zested oranges and juniper berries. Then a healthy dose of Juno's extra fine gin is added during fermentation. The result is as delicious as it sounds.
The interior is simple but quirky with “on-brand” Oktoberfest tables, painted murals and aluminium barrels doubling up as stools. You can take a ring-side seat next to the brewing equipment and watch the masters at work. The hoppy smells are rather intoxicating and will certainly prompt the need for a further visit (not least to sample these new creations). If hunger strikes, Three Sisters Brewery have a humble but tasty offering of burgers and small plates to keep you tied over. Must be time for another round then.
