Lake Tekapo’s only independent bookstore, Petronella’s Gallery and Bookstore, offers a sanctuary for both book and art lovers. The beautifully presented store is a pleasure to wander through, and with a great selection of books for various interests, it’s easy to while away the hours leafing through pages.
The bookstore is owned and operated by Lake Tekapo local Wilma van den Bosch, a lifelong literature enthusiast and an advocate for the local creative community. Wilma hosts a book club, author events and writing workshops at the store, and is constantly updating her stock with new titles.
Whether you’re after a great holiday read, insightful children’s literature or a specific interest book for that special someone, you are bound to find plenty of options here. Petronella’s Gallery and Bookstore is curated with care, and on top of the admirable range of literature, you’ll find boutique stationery, gifts and quality curiosities as well.
Upstairs the ArtSpace Tekapo gallery showcases local and New Zealand art and is run by another lake town local, Prue Blake. Exhibitions change five times a year, offering both locals and visitors something new to discover at every visit.
