Located in one of the sheds at The Depot off Sales Street, Brothers Beer is a fine establishment which handles the concocting of craft beer like Picasso handled a brush.
Similar to the abundance of coffee grottos permeating every side street of the CBD, which draw people in with exotic brands and beans from the orient, Brothers Beer aims to fulfil the lust for drink which all the famous brands can no longer satisfy. And boy do they do it well.
Not only do they brew their own, but they also stock the latest moustache frothing, craft beers from around the world for your pleasure. Their selection is constantly changing from week to week to ensure only the latest inventions are dragged up from the harbour by the crate load solely for your benefit. The friendly chaps behind the bar are more than happy to dish out free samples to those who need a little convincing, but once it hits your lips it’s game over.
The whole place is thrown together like a 90’s computer tech start-up with boys working out of the garage. Old couches, brown plastic bottles, and a few stools add to the colloquial atmosphere while the smell of chips and roasting meat from the nearby eateries is as intoxicating as the beverage in your hand. While this is predominantly a beer batch, some of the ciders on tap are equally discerning and are a bang with the ladies. Whether buying wholesale, filling your own flask or basking in the glow of all the different labels ripe and ready for the picking, Brothers Beer is to Auckland CBD what vineyards are to Waiheke. Now if only we can get a few more around the place…
