Close to Sky City and right next door to the Sky City Grand Hotel, Al Brown’s Depot has the foot traffic to keep their tables stocked, but not the clamor of the main drag so you can actually hear yourself think.
Ticking off all sections of the food pyramid, the ‘Freedom Farms’ pork hock is a beastly portion of moistness that looks like it has been handpicked from a recently captured bush pig. The hapuka belly with eggplant kasundi is another delicacy and Mahurangi oysters and lamb ribs come in smaller plates and support the main acts with tantalising flavour and flair. And it’s all so fresh! This is the one thing that Al keeps consistent, searching New Zealand from tip to top for the highest quality ingredients.
An impressive wine menu featuring Neudorf Rosie’s Block Chardonnay from Nelson and the Central Otago pinot noir, on tap, compliment the fresh and vibrant Kiwi meals.
Like all of Al’s eateries, just walk on in and sit. There are no reservations, and you certainly shouldn’t have any about coming here.
