Browns Eatery and Store

Nestled amongst a row of busy shops along Remuera Road lies Browns Eatery and Store. It’s a deceptively big, welcoming space, offering something of a European vibe. The white tiled bricks on the walls and marbled tables are timeless and familiar, and the tables are set up in a way that invites you to stay a while, a peaceful respite in an otherwise busy area.

While the menu entices, it is the cabinet food that steals the show, overflowing with sweet and savoury goodies to satisfy the most hungry of humans. The sweet treats are always beautifully presented, lining the countertop and cabinet, and it’s not uncommon to experience decision paralysis simply at the sight. The sandwiches and scones are standout products, and should be duly polished off with a decadent piece of brownie or rocky road. The miniature lemon meringue tarts are also a hit, and it’s hard to go past the seasonal goodies - such as ANZAC biscuits and Easter and Christmas themed cookies and cakes. 

The fun doesn’t stop there either, Browns Eatery also sells homewares, ranging from beautiful bouquets of fresh flowers greeting you at the doorway, to bowls, ceramics and paintings on the wall. New items are sometimes shown on social media, but seeing them for yourself on display at Browns is the best way to see their magic in action. 

Order at the counter and then take a seat either in the main dining room, or head out back for a secondary space. It’s well lit, spacious and looks out onto a courtyard you probably didn’t even know existed. With a coffee in hand and delicious food on the way, Browns Eatery is an easy and enjoyable spot to while the afternoon away.
