7/15 Faraday Street, Parnell, Auckland

Found among the hustle and bustle of Faraday Street—arguably the coolest little corner in Auckland—Bara will have you lusting after new threads in no time. This high-end boutique evokes serious art gallery vibes and is a far cry from your typical clothing shop.

The creatives behind this concept, Josh Lee and Joshua Jang, both come from a fashion background and have a desire to reignite Parnell’s fashion scene. The intention with Bara is to offer treasured garments that present a sense of ‘daily practical aestheticism,’ a style clearly intertwined in the fabric of Faraday Street locals.

The store itself is true to the industrial aesthetic of the surrounding area, sporting warehouse vibes, concrete floors, high ceilings and show-stopping windows. This simple but intentional space serves as the perfect backdrop to let the clothing shine.

What makes Bara stand out above the rest is the team’s approach to curation. The whole purpose of the store is to give local creatives and designers a platform and opportunity to sell their work. Right now you can shop stand out resident brands like ISBIM, Courtney Pellow, and Cinnamon Swan. Or newly added young talents like Jess Grindell, and Sewnar.

A common thread you’ll find between designs is versatility, as most pieces are positioned to work seamlessly from day to night, from a casual brunch to a more formal setting. As Vivienne Westwood would say, it’s the definition of “buy less, choose well and make it last.”
