They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. And no sentiment could ring truer for Christchurch Ōtautahi locals, as Supreme Supreme ended their five-year hiatus from 10 Welles Street.
The New Zealand coffee institution returned to its Christchurch digs in December 2023, bringing back a few familiar favourites as well as introducing some well-considered changes to the scene. Maintaining the classic American diner aesthetic, a fresh lick of paint, an extra splatter of ketchup-red accents, natural wooden features and a down-sized dining space gives off a warmer ‘at home’ feeling – and we’re super into it.
Needless to say, coffee continues to rule here. Whether you’re an oat flat white drinker, shot back an espresso on the way to work or sip away for hours on bottomless filter coffee (throw your hand in the air for a free refill), the team of first-class baristas has you sorted.
And when you start to feel a little jittery? Look to the all-day breakfast menu for fresh fruit platters, a decadent double stack of pancakes with whipped butter and maple syrup, fries (no 9am judgements here), and an egg n’ cheese breakfast muffin that usurps the drive-through alternative. There’s plenty of delicious sides to encourage a build-your-own breakfast experience, as well as hot sandwiches from 10am and baked goods available in the cabinet.
For thoughtful gifts or to satisfy your own coffee needs outside the cafe hours, head to the back shelf for retro mugs and sauces, bags of freshly roasted beans, maple syrup pourers you didn’t know you needed, and more.
