Addington Coffee Co-op is, simply put, a great café and a true Christchurch institution.

It first opened back in 2008 and is housed within a repurposed building that once functioned as an auto electrician and a mechanic’s workshop. High ceilings, exposed beams, brickwork and warm wood, plus floor-to-ceiling windows, create a space where you’ll want to linger. Add to that a collection of vintage chairs and tables, large rugs and a couple of couches, plenty of greenery and a box full of kid's toys and you may as well be sitting in a cosy lounge at a good friend’s place – a good friend who also makes excellent coffee and food.

From the get-go, Addington Coffee Co-op has roasted its own beans, and you can still watch the roaster in action most days of the week. There are a variety of blends available under the Common Good Coffee brand, and you can grab a bag of beans or ground coffee for your home coffee making purposes.

On the food side of things, Addington Coffee Co-op offers your classic café fare, done well. Expect to find a menu brimming with delicious options and a cabinet heaving with numerous goodies. Bread comes from local Grizzly Baked Goods and all other produce is also gathered from as close to home as possible. A whole page of the menu is dedicated to vegan options, and other dietary needs have been taken into account as well.

Addington Coffee Co-op is in business to do good in the world, and it shows in every aspect of how things are done there. From the supply chain to employment to distributing a large portion of its profits to community groups globally,  Addington Coffee Co-op strives to change the way business is carried out.

The Addington Store, a little gift shop within the walls of the café, is a wonderful wee spot with a selection of books and Trade Aid (and all things eco) products – a perfect place to grab a little something for yourself or someone close to your heart.

Addington Coffee Co-op is a café that needs to be on your list of go-to's, and if you’ve been there before, here’s a reminder to revisit.
