The Tack Rooms by Hotel Montreal is one of Christchurch's most innovative and unique accommodation options that doubles as an equally spectacular event space. It's the ideal place to stay, where you can have the space and comforts of home whilst enjoying the quality of curated finishes (and enjoy the hotel experience without staying in a hotel room, from 24/7 gym access to room service and complimentary e-bikes).

Originally constructed in 1967, the two buildings are neatly tucked into the lush landscape, located just down the street from Hagley Park, Christchurch’s green crown jewel. Since their construction, The Tack Rooms have served as classrooms, army barracks and art studios. Now, they’re an exceptional spot to rest your head, relax, take a staycation, throw a party or any combination thereof.

Before you even step inside, the two pavilions' visual character and charming location hint at the experiential aspects that define The Tack Rooms. The gardens, greenery and spacious porch area offer outdoor appeal to match the exciting interiors of the adjacent suites.

Inside The Tack Rooms, you’ll find earthy tones, choice fabrics, beautiful joinery and carefully chosen accents, which make them a treat to experience every time you visit. The understated luxury is welcoming and homey yet still manages to give you a ‘world away’ feeling.

The two suites feature original gable ceilings and full-length windows for maximum natural light and spaciousness, while the custom-designed full kitchens double as ideal workspaces. The lounge areas include a complete entertainment console so you can have a movie night, and watch the news with your morning coffee the next day.

The master bedrooms have, again, been designed exclusively for The Tack Rooms' character and ethos. Both feature plush bedding and sit-alongside free-standing bathtubs for a bit of old-world glamour. The tiled bathrooms offer open showers, underfloor heating and NZ-made Crimson & Co bathroom products — all of which make it hard not to relax.

These beautiful historical spaces can also be hired for events. Events at The Tack Rooms are curated with the same attention to detail and customisation that can be seen in their overall design. The gleaming kitchen spaces can be activated for catering and socialising, while the deck area and lush outdoor features add an al fresco element to any gathering. Linked by laneway to Hotel Montreal and onsite restaurant The Montreal, it’s the perfect spot for a long lunch, dinner or special evening.
