Carey’s Bay Historic Hotel dates back to 1874 and is one of the most popular pubs in Dunedin, located just beyond Port Chalmers. The restaurant specialises in seafood but offers dishes such as lamb shank with mashed potatoes, free-farmed pulled pork in a flaky roti, and there's also a vegan menu. A bar menu is available at all times for those looking to enjoy a pint of beer or a nice glass of wine.

Inside, there are plenty of cosy corners with beautiful views of the bay, together with two open fires to heat the interior on those chilly Dunedin nights. The courtyard area provides a beautifully sunny outdoor space during summer, and the adjacent glass conservatory is heated all year round. One of the most popular places is an area called ‘The Snug’, which offers private dining for a party of up to 14 people.

Only a short drive up the road from downtown Port Chalmers, the Carey’s Bay Historic Hotel is a must-see establishment with beautiful décor, terrific views, and good pub food.
