If you picture a 1980s RSA (but cool) merged with an old-school American dive bar, you might land somewhere not too far off the vibe at Last Place. Something like a plush lounge meets garage: low-lit, slightly grungy and carpeted, of course. Hamilton’s Last Place Bar doesn’t have to be the last place you visit in a night, in fact, it’s well set up to be the beginning, middle or end of your evening, depending on your mood.
Offering good beer, bad beer and everything in between, the crew at Last Place Bar are confident there will be something on the menu for every beer drinker. How could they not when they have one of the most extensive beer menus in the city? There are 10 brews on tap and over 100 beers in the fridge. You’ll find it all, from a handle of Waikato Draught to the latest craze in craft beer. For the wine connoisseurs, there is a simple list of tastefully curated drops. And for those seeking a nightcap, whiskey highball is on tap, and there is a range of other fancier whiskey (and gin) available too.
When it comes to food, there are simple, mouth-watering snacks available any hour that Last Place is open. Burgers at 3am? No problem. There are also fries and grilled cheese toasties to get that comfort food fix.
Mid-sized gig venues in Hamilton are not exactly commonplace, so Last Place, with its capacity of about 150 people, plugs a much-needed gap for gig goers. With a focus on original, live music, you’ll find a gig there two to three evenings a week - and that’s not including the karaoke nights.
The bar is open from 4pm till very late. Whether you head there for after-work drinks, dinner with mates, a live gig, or after midnight for a party, you will always find the friendly and passionate team at Last Place ready to greet you with a smile. After all, it was created as somewhere they wanted to be too. Check their socials for the latest goings on: there’s a bit of a following, and it’s not hard to see why.
