Morning coffee places don’t get any better than Hawthorne Coffee Roastery & Espresso Bar in Havelock North. With plenty of seats, delicious baked treats, parking right outside, freshly roasted beans at the source and incredible service, you'll have to pop in and try it for yourself.

Hawthorne opened its doors back in 1999, so these guys know a thing or two when it comes to roasting and brewing coffee. The espresso bar atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a wood-panelled front counter that gives off cosy cabin vibes. The real showpiece is the large window allowing you a glimpse of the roastery in action. Grab a seat at one of the leaner tables if you can, and be mesmerised by the behind-the-scenes sneak peek.

A popular coffee haunt, regulars flow in and out, friends meet and there's a general hustle and bustle: signs of a great café. When you order your coffee (or other drink) of choice, make sure you take a minute to peruse the cabinet of tempting goods. Hastings’ renowned Ya Bon bakers and OMG Specialty Breads are responsible for many of the pastries, doughnuts and sandwiches on display, and you won’t regret ordering one (or several). Whilst you’re in Hawthorne, stock up on any home coffee needs; from beans to brewing equipment, they have you covered.

If you’re short on time, Hawthorne has the perfect solution with their specialised takeaway window found down the side of the main café, meaning you can place your order and be away in no time with your caffeine boost.

There’s a reason Hawthorne Coffee Roastery & Espresso Bar has been on the Havelock North coffee scene for over 25 years. They are experts in their field, and the proof is in your cup.
