Set inside one of Foxton’s original buildings, Petal & Bee Grocers blends old-school charm with a fresh, contemporary ethos for a food shopping experience that just feels right.

From the bright pink signage to the old-fashioned scales and handy bulk bin station, there’s a bright, energetic warmth throughout the space. Wooden shelves and baskets filled with earthy, wholesome produce line the walls, while bold pops of colour and local art bring a fresh edge. It’s designed to feel like stepping into your local neighbourhood grocers - an unpretentious spot where you can grab pantry essentials and stop for a chat, where the ‘organic’ tag is welcoming rather than exclusive.

The shop’s motto - ‘whole, local, organic, kind’ - neatly sums up the experience. Petal & Bee focuses on single-ingredient, whole foods, think wholegrains, flours, nuts, and seeds, as well as the stuff you need to make your own skincare or cleaning products. Local makers dominate the shelves too, from Udderly Milk and The Little Organic Egg Company to Hohepa cheeses, Kereru skincare, and The Herb Farm.

Owners Peta Lee (nicknamed ‘Petal’) and Bryan (‘Bee’) dreamed up the name and concept after moving to Foxton and realising it needed a spot offering quality, organic, and local products in one place. But Petal & Bee is more than just a moniker; it represents a deeper connection to nature: much of what we eat, after all, begins with the flowers and the bees.
