Cake & Kitchen is a cafe in Upper Hutt, bringing people together over delicious food and coffee. It’s a lively space with foliage that is pleasant on the eye and food that is even more generous on the taste buds. The menu caters widely for various ages and appetites, and as the 2023 runners-up for the ‘People’s Choice Award for Avocado on Toast’, there is at least one menu item that warrants special excitement.

Cake & Kitchen plays an important role in the social fabric of the Upper Hutt community. It is a meeting place for business and social occasions, intended to be an extension of your lounge at home. With a vision of providing unique flavours and nourishment to the local community, Cake & Kitchen prides itself on being that home away from home.

At Cake & Kitchen, there is an ethos grounded in sustainability. This can be seen right across the business. The premises were built from the ground up using recycled timber and furnished with vintage items from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The crockery is New Zealand’s very own Crown Lynn, sourced from second-hand shops and creating a feeling of nostalgia in the cafe. Cake & Kitchen is adorned with plants, the life and growth of the greenery helping to ensure an ever-evolving space.

Still, with a focus on sustainability, there is an emphasis on supporting local suppliers. There is an awareness that supporting local businesses in turn fosters an even wider community connection. Instore, there are incentives for customers to choose reusable cups and reduce food waste, all in an effort to help minimise our environmental footprint.

And the icing on the cake? The staff are passionate, the coffee is delicious, and the cabinet will leave you wanting more.
