With its pristine white walls and shelves resembling - literally and metaphorically - a blank canvas, Lib & Lu is the kind of homeware store that encourages you to effortlessly experiment and imagine what your living space could be.
This Upper Hutt spot carries a calm, design-led aesthetic, where nothing feels overdone yet everything has its place. Expansive cube shelving hosts all manner of items in soft, earthy tones, with a range of tactile materials creating a gentle rhythm throughout. Every surface is styled with a designer’s eye, layering ceramics, textiles, and objects in a way that invites you to explore. It’s the sort of environment that sparks ideas for your own space without overwhelming, offering quiet confidence rather than noise.
This sensibility comes directly from owner Anna Johnston’s roots. Born out of her work in interior design, Lib & Lu responds to a familiar challenge: finding those final pieces that pull a room together. The store bridges that gap, offering a curated selection that spans small, thoughtful gifts through to lifestyle products, statement items, and cohesive styling solutions. Candles and ceramics are clear favourites, alongside a considered range of kitchen and entertaining pieces that balance beauty with practicality.
Named after Anna’s two daughters, Lib & Lu carries a personal thread throughout. And this certainly isn’t your ordinary homeware store - each visitor is invited to channel their inner interior designer, just like Anna, and leave with that special piece to add a personal touch to their own home.
