Only a hop, skip and throw from Upper Hutt’s CBD is Maidstone Park. The greenspace is home to bush trails, a downhill mountain bike track, sports fields, clubrooms, and of course, the Maidstone Max Adventure Playground. There really is something for everyone, so it should come as no surprise that Maidstone Park is an attractive Upper Hutt destination.
Back in 2021, the Maidstone Max Adventure Playground was reimagined to create the playground that we all dreamed of when we were young. It has a strong fantasy theme, classic yet timeless, offering an environment that brings kids together through the wonderful world of play. There’s a castle fort atop what was a preexisting mound, a double flying fox for the thrill seekers and a half basketball court, not to mention the state of the art skate park.
With an emphasis on inclusivity, the pump track and castle fort are both designed to be wheelchair friendly, and there are plenty of interactive features to encourage play of all abilities. The playground also incorporates sand play in the ‘quarry’ along with musical play in its own section, both being points of difference from other playgrounds in the area.
When it’s time for a break, scout a picnic spot in the shade or at one of the picnic tables in the area. There is plenty of space for everyone, and even a number of covered BBQ areas for those wanting to feed hungry bellies. It’s also possible to have gatherings at the park and use these facilities, just get in touch with the Upper Hutt City Council first.
