If you’re after an out of the ordinary experience, Wacky Stays and Llama Trekking is the place to go for that different kind of Kaikōura experience.

Situated just four kilometres out of the town centre, this is your out-of-town close-to-town destination.

Surrounded by rural landscape and paddocks full of animals, take your pick of six glamping accommodation options, from a converted historical train carriage to the classic kiwi house truck. Each unit is unique and fitted out with its own theme. There are private outdoor cooking facilities and some of the units include a fully fenced outdoor area with a dog kennel, so you can bring your four-legged friend with you on holiday.

Guests are invited to help feed the animals on the property, of which there are some forty odd: pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, alpaca, turkeys and, of course, llamas, plus a dog that will never tire of fetching a stick.

If you’re keen to get an even more hands-on animal encounter, then their llama trekking is a must try. Choose either a taster trek, which is about an hour's walk with the llamas, or the half-day experience, which will have you walking along the Kaikōura coast with an llama in tow for about three hours.
