Olde Beach Bakery pumps out delicious baked goods in the heart of Paekākāriki for the enjoyment of locals and visitors alike. Known to many for its Waikanae sibling, the set up here is similar, and expectations are matched to a ‘t’. An array of French style carby goodness adorns the cabinet – we’re talking croissants, danishes, pan au raisins and the like, plus there’s plenty to satisfy those after some classic kiwi baked goods too – quality pies, filled sandwiches and scones will have you coming back for more for sure.
The industrial feel of the site is fitting for a working bakery. At the back of the store, large glass doors allow customers the full view of the bakery, and you’ll often find a few tots with their noses pressed against the window watching the bakers at work. On quiet days the doors are left ajar, and customers are invited to interact with the back of the house and perhaps take a tip or two to try at home.
While it’s the pastries and pies that take the spotlight within the cabinet, don’t bypass the selection of sourdough breads that sit ready and waiting to be taken home and enjoyed with the whānau. A selection of sourdough bread is available at Olde Beach Bakery daily, with the occasional specialty popped on top on the weekends.
On the merch side of things, you can pick up some local pottery, Jolco keep cups, handmade spoons and pens, and a couple of wardrobe items if you’re inclined. The cabinet also hides a selection of Saltwood meats, such as bacon, brisket and pastrami.
There are plenty of options to suit all dietary needs, and the community is at the heart of it all here. You’ll see locals popping in for their bread or pastry and visitors flocking in during the warmer days that invite walkers to explore the coastline.
