Blending a tight-knit community space with unique local retail offerings and fantastic food and drink, Tom Thumb on the Kāpiti Coast is so much more than your local coffee spot.

Smack-bang in the middle of Paraparaumu’s Kena Kena shops, Tom Thumb instantly stands out with its distinctive colour scheme, with its warm wood panelling neatly juxtaposed against slick black brickwork. This aesthetic is replicated throughout the interior too, where sleek white walls and an abundance of plant life add further textures and colours. It all plays together wonderfully well and while there’s certainly a lot going on, the space is airy and spacious enough to provide an inviting atmosphere.

Offering both quick takeaway bites as well as a small dine-in brunch menu, there’s something to entice all palates - the focus here is on tasty and inclusive food that caters to most dietary requirements. Go for the vegan and gluten-free custard donuts for a sweet treat or for a fulsome lunch try one of the nourish bowls, which are customisable and come in different flavour combinations each day. For shopping aficionados, there’s also a retail section featuring sustainable, eco-friendly retail products crafted by local creatives.

A small, unashamedly local outfit that aims to foster a sense of community, Tom Thumb is the kind of place where the staff know the regulars by name. And with its combination of great food and coffee, good vibes, and cool local finds, it’s no wonder it’s a popular haunt for Paraparaumu locals.
