A nod to the sheer social power of good food and its ability to bring people together, Seriously Pickled is a small but mighty food business that’s based in Paraparaumu but has a footprint that stretches across the Wellington region.

Blending a popular local deli with a busy and efficient catering service, Seriously Pickled HQ on Seaview Road, right by the beach, is certainly worth a visit. Sleek black tiles and surfaces seamlessly complement the homely vibe of the space - with its open-plan workspace, it feels more like a friend’s (rather spacious) kitchen rather than a shop. Countless jars of pickles, relishes, sauces, and artisan products, all neatly arranged, line the shelves and cubby holes, while the cabinet provides further temptations in the shape of fresh sweet and savoury treats. It all adds to a very inviting atmosphere - owner Lucinda describes herself and her team as simply cooks who love cooking, and like all true chefs, nothing gets them going quite like a yarn with a fellow foodie.

The Seriously Pickled deli specialises in easy, nutritious grab-and-go meals, which double as a tasty sampler of Lucinda’s catering offerings. A relentless focus on fresh ingredients means a regular, fixed menu is nigh on impossible. The only constant is the element of surprise, so just come along and check out whatever the team’s cooking up on the day. Indulge in Seriously Pickled’s famed salads, made with clean, seasonal produce, or the winter soups and sweet slices packed with flavour. The house-made chicken liver pate and smoked fish pate are a specialty, and the cheese scones here have been ranked the second best in the Wellington region.

Seriously Pickled isn’t just about amazing-tasting food. The team works with a deliberate focus on keeping things healthy: most dishes are made naturally gluten-free, with dressings and sauces made in-house. And with a commitment to using products from local suppliers, this Kāpiti Coast deli has forged a well-earned reputation as a true local hero.
