The oldest pub functioning in its original building in Aotearoa and proud of it, The Moutere Inn is a definite destination in this part of Te Waipounamu. An original free house since forever ago, you can expect to taste a variety of craft beers from around New Zealand while taking in some stunning valley views. On top of cold brews, local Nelson Tasman wines are hugely celebrated here – and local truly means local: wines are chosen from vineries within a 10km radius of the pub.

Current owners Andrew and Dave acquired the pub in 2008, and over the years have gradually refurbished it with respect to the history of the place. Indoors is like an extension of a lounge; there are various groups of vintage couches to settle on and homely dining tables for tackling some delicious gastro pub fare prepared in the kitchen. Historical images and newspaper articles adorn the walls in each room.

The menu at The Moutere Inn changes with the seasons and boasts some generous dishes such as Butter Fried Gnocchi or Slow Roast Pork Belly. A kids’ menu caters for the little humans in your family and desserts are not to be overlooked, either; cheesecake is a house specialty and a very delicious end to your meal indeed.

Throughout the week and the year, the pub hosts various events. There are quiz nights, curry nights, folk nights (these bring in all the locals with their chosen instruments), steak nights, and regular live gigs.

If you haven’t experienced the hospitality of a true kiwi pub, The Moutere Inn will gladly fix that. And if you know what you're in for, we don’t have to continue convincing you.
