Oásis is a fitting name for this treasure trove of an antiques store found on Tees Street in Ōamaru. Calling a 150-year-old Victorian building home that carries a heritage designation, it’s the perfect backdrop for the wares found in Oásis. You will want to set aside some time to explore every nook and cranny of the store, with their wide-ranging stock of antiques and art from around the world.

Owners Greg and Katy moved to Oamaru in 2012, and Oásis was born. Combining Greg’s wealth of experience as an antiques dealer for over 50 years with their experiences living overseas in places like Indonesia and Portugal, they have created a global antique retail space like no other in the country. Everywhere you turn in the shop, there is something different to catch your eye and attention.

The treasures stocked here are wide-ranging, but there is a distinctly Asian and Middle-Eastern feel to the shop, with items such as Japanese woodblock prints, hand-knotted carpets & kilims. There’s also a wealth of Oriental and European-style pottery and porcelain in store, with the oldest piece, a Chinese pot, almost 5,000 years old. Greg and Katy also represent several top South Island artists, and there is an ever-changing selection of studio ceramics on display. So there really is something to appeal to every artistic taste and preference.

A unique shopping trip awaits you at Oásis, so take your time browsing and exploring the store, and you just might find a one-of-a-kind piece to go home with.
