In recent years, the town of Ōamaru has seen many historic buildings giving new life thanks to restorations to preserve the unique architecture that contributes so much charm to the Waitaki district. In its heyday, it was the headquarters of Rice’s Confectionery, but in 2016, it was a derelict shell of its former self. However, Katrina and David saw its potential, situated right in the beating heart of Ōamaru. They undertook a painstaking renovation, leaving no stone unturned and restoring it to its original grandeur. The Old Confectionery luxury apartments opened to guests in 2020, thanks to the hard work of many local tradespeople, many of who became good friends along the way.

Staying here is a genuine treat, and travellers staying here are delighted by the quirky details throughout the apartments and the original features that could be restored.
