LIGHTBOX is a gallery, gift shop and art supplies store all-in-one, tucked inside the iconic Square Edge Community Arts building in central Palmerston North. Family-owned and operated by Toni and Zayne, it’s a locally loved spot to browse local artwork, pick up art materials and chat through ideas with people who live and breathe making.

The front-of-house gallery showcases a range of Manawatū artists alongside a well-chosen mix of gifts, from ceramics, small sculptures and prints to glass, jewellery and textiles. Being based at Square Edge gives the space an easy link into the wider creative community, so there’s almost always something new to see whenever you drop by.

Out back, the art-supplies side is set up for beginners right through to practising artists. You’ll find everything you need, whether you’re looking for paint, paper, canvas, brushes, pens, pastels, inks, sketchbooks and more. Or if you prefer to top up from home, they have a growing online store. The crew is always generous with practical advice, and Square Edge host regular workshops that pop up throughout the year. If art-hopping around the region is up your alley, they are also part of the Coastal Arts Trail, so it slots neatly into a day of shopping and creativity.

If you’re hunting for a present with personality, starting a first kit for a budding artist or restocking the studio, they’ll point you to the good stuff and sort you out all in one stop.
