As Louisa put it, “We purchase books carefully and uniquely, and we pick what we think our customers want to read rather than accepting what the publishers enthusiastically promote. We don’t have huge piles of one title, but rather an extensive range of interesting and challenging books.”

The solid new hardback titles on display here cover an impressive variety of topics, with careful attention paid to books and authors that tell the stories of our place -  Aotearoa New Zealand and the Manawatū region specifically.

Explore notable New Zealand sections like natural history, Te reo Māori, fiction, cooking, history and poetry. Other international sections include transport, motoring, graphic novels, classics, science,  gardening, art, architecture and design. The ‘Recommended’ shelves are stocked with the wise choices of the staff and trending books from reviews and literary awards. With so many thousands of titles in stock, this is the kind of book shop you could spend a lifetime exploring.

As a local, family owned business, Bruce McKenzie Booksellers makes a point to support neighboring authors. This Farming Life - Five Generations of a New Zealand Farm written by Tim Saunders on his Oroua Downs farm, for example, is one of the titles that originate in Manawatū and take pride of place on the shelves.

Pop in if you have a specific title in mind, if you want to learn more about the region or if you simply want to browse. The team can answer all of your questions. This wonderful bookstore is not to be missed.
