With wellbeing, community and sustainability intertwined into each offering, visitors run away to Sherwood Queenstown to renew their body, spirit and mind through food, sleep, nature, meditative activities such as yoga and massage therapy and a thoughtfully curated events programme.
Hotel guest or not, anyone is invited to stop in and soak up the restorative qualities flowing through each pocket. If you do choose to stay the night, however, a serene oasis awaits. Eco-designed rooms are available to suit different moods and aesthetics, with lake, mountain or waterfall views waiting to greet you each morning. Everything is arranged to ensure a great night’s sleep – but also a beautiful space to sleep in late, read a book by the window or indulge in a sauna, yoga class or a glass of natural wine from the in-room refillery.
Good thing there’s a two-hatted restaurant to lure guests from the tranquillity of their rooms. With Michelin-trained executive chef Chris Scott leading the kitchen, woodfired flatbreads and delicious sharing plates are designed to bring people together in a very special environment. If you’re wondering how such colour, flavour and freshness is achieved, there’s no tricks at play. The team simply pop down to the expansive vegetable garden thriving on site, thanks to resident horticulturist, Timothy Baker. What they can’t grow, they forage – and when all else fails they enlist support from a community of local producers. 99% of ingredients are sourced from New Zealand, with three quarters of that from the South Island alone. Huge flex.
Embracing the Māori concept of Manaakitanga, hospitality at Sherwood goes beyond basic service. It’s about showing respect, generosity and care for others and Papatūānuku. The bar aspires to a zero-waste system (with the restaurant following closely behind), organic waste is returned to the garden to grow more food, low-impact materials are prioritised in each design and over 90% of marketing activity is channelled into community focused events.
Sherwood is undeniably a beautiful place to rest one’s head, but that barely scratches the surface of what this Frankton haven offers.
