When the hustle and bustle of central Queenstown gets too much, there’s a nearby oasis offering a moment of tranquillity. If you’ve heard of Bespoke Kitchen already, we’re not surprised. With plenty of awards to its name, lottery-winning views and a wholesome menu steered towards health and wellbeing, Bespoke has managed to remain a calming retreat despite its fame.
One of the first things you notice upon arriving is the expansive cabinet, accommodating a generous selection of freshly baked goods, made in-house every morning. You’ve got your South Island classics like cheese rolls and sausage rolls, as well as sandwiches bulging with tasty ingredients, hearty salads and inviting hunks of nostalgic sweets. The all-day menu changes seasonally and celebrates local produce, with iterations of the vegan benedict and breakfast board remaining the favourites. We’re also completely besotted with the kids menu, featuring eggs and soldiers, bowls of cornflakes and a lunchbox set with a sandwich, juice, fruit and choccie fish.
In summer, patrons relish the opportunity to lounge on the terrace or in the dog-friendly garden courtyard – a garden that also helps out the kitchen with flourishing beds of fruit and veggie and edible flowers, as well as apiaries producing golden honey. As winter arrives, the contemporary dining room transforms into a cosy sanctuary from the cold, with an open fire crackling with warmth and charm.
To see the cafe in its most enchanting state, we recommend heading there early to watch the day wake up. Perch on the front porch with a perfectly made coffee, watch as the first rays of sunshine peek over The Remarkables and let the golden glow wash over you. Bliss.
