With the motto ‘handmade with love and care,’ it’s not surprising to find that Artisan Café is big on caring for its staff, guests and community, which is why their suppliers hold a similar ethos of fair trade, free-range and sustainability to boot. A fire keeps things cosy on the cooler days, and the whole atmosphere here is reminiscent of sitting around the table at a friendly neighbour’s house.

Quick and tasty is the name of the game when it comes to cabinet offerings – there are decadent slices, cakes and cookies all made in-house, and the filled pastries or wholesome salads are an easy lunchtime snack. If your belly needs more filling, it may pay to check out the breakfast and lunch menu – classic eggs bene, homemade granola, burgers and the seasonal vegan buddha bowl are just some of the options here.

Like what you’ve found on your plate? Artisan Café sells some of their relishes, spreads and pickled goods alongside locally made Māori herbal balms, coffee beans and Keep Cups.

Proud to serve Kokako coffee (fair trade and organic!), the team at Artisan Café is well practised at turning their beans into your choice of espresso, while tea comes from Hamilton tea makers Zealong. If cold drinks are more your scene, go with something from the milkshake, juice or smoothie range – and why not drink it street-side when the days get hotter? There’s plenty of interesting people-watching to keep you occupied while you sip.

An easy-going eatery that is deservedly proud of its authentic approach to good food, good coffee and good service, Artisan Café is a safe bet every time you visit.
