At River’s Catch in Rotorua, you’re not just grabbing dinner on the go, you’re getting a feel-good experience crafted with care. An upmarket fish and chip shop, River’s Catch specialises in sustainable, seasonal, and downright delicious comfort food. If you’re looking for somewhere that adds a dash of love and a dollop of creativity into every takeaway box, here’s your catch of the day.

The story behind River’s Catch is equal parts heartwarming and inspiring. Izzy and Norman immigrated from the Philippines around 15 years ago, bringing with them a dream that had been brewing long before they landed in New Zealand. With backgrounds as registered nurses, they shifted gears and Izzy pursued her passion as a chef. Norman’s mother, Suj, had always dreamed of opening something unique, and through River’s Catch, that dream has come to life. As for the name, it was their daughter Zeta’s suggestion - a clever play on words that gives a nod to Zeta’s sister, River.

When it comes to offerings, River’s Catch keeps it classic but with a Filipino twist. Their signature ‘Tackle Box’ includes fish and chips with Asian slaw and miso dressing, and  homemade sauce for that unique flavour punch. Other popular items are the Adobo fish tacos and the smash burgers - both are juicy, tasty, and flying out the door. There are Filipino flavours subtly infused throughout the menu - showcasing the family’s heritage, while still catering to the local scene.

As for the future, River’s Catch is more than just about serving great food it’s about bringing thoughtful, love-filled flavours to the Bay of Plenty. With ambitions to expand to Tauranga, Taupo, and maybe beyond, Izzy and Norman are just getting started. Their ultimate goal? To create a space where every bite feels personal, and every customer leaves with more than just a full belly - they leave with a bit of aroha.
