If there was ever a perfect stop to make when on the road with the family, Farm Barn Café on top of Mount Michael in the heart of Mackenzie District is it. Located a mere five minutes drive from Fairlie, this café is most certainly worthy of a visit.
As you step inside, you will be welcomed by beautifully curated interiors in which to unwind and relax. With unobstructed valley views, plenty of cosy corners and sunny outdoor tables, plus a fully fenced outdoor play area and sun-loungers to choose from, there’s no doubt that every visitor will find a spot that tickles their fancy.
Oh, and did we yet mention the cute animals that you can send the kids to feed while you enjoy that perfect cup of coffee? There’s Gerty the goat, Daisy the deer and a handful of very friendly sheep that enjoy a pat and a treat from little hands. You might also get lucky and spot the cafe dogs, who are just as friendly as the rest of the animals.
Farm Barn Café is run by a local mother-daughter duo, Jan and Ellie, who have operated the business together since 2015. The family has a deer farming background and nods to this can be seen in and around the café, especially so in the stunning deer antler feature high on the trusses.
On the food side of things, you’ll find honest, homemade café fare, stunning cakes and plenty of sweet treats to fill your tummy. There’s also a neat little store on site, with a great range of children’s books and quality giftware.
